Jerry Ann Robbins’ Journey from Writer to Filmmaker

Jerry Ann Robbins’ journey into filmmaking began not behind the camera, but with a pen in hand. Originally a screenwriter, she quickly learned how challenging it could be to protect and produce her own work. After facing rejection, stolen ideas, and the reality of Hollywood’s financing-driven decision-making, Jerry decided to take control of her career. Guided by her manager, she embraced the role of producer—determined to bring her vision to life on her own terms.

Her creative approach is deeply rooted in strong storytelling. Jerry believes that memorable films require compelling protagonists, timeless narratives, and a clear visual identity. Influenced by classics in both literature and cinema, she blends her love for history and westerns with a collaborative style that thrives on teamwork.

Some of her proudest achievements include the award-winning short film Aperture, directed by Joe Monahan and shot by the late Dan Kneece, as well as her ongoing project The Hero—a script she has poured years of passion and dedication into.

Career Goals & Vision

Today, Jerry is driven by a single mission: to tell powerful stories that inspire and endure. While balancing narrative films with commercial work, she remains focused on creating projects that resonate with audiences across cultures and backgrounds.

Diversity and inclusion are central to her vision. Jerry seeks to elevate underrepresented voices and create films that broaden perspectives.

"I like seeing stories from perspectives different than my own. That’s how we grow as artists and as people."

Looking ahead, her immediate goal is to produce The Hero with a talented team, while also preparing to expand into larger features, westerns, historical dramas, and even documentaries.

Discovery of Filmustage

Jerry first discovered Filmustage two years ago while researching tools for tagging, scheduling, and budgeting. At the time, her manager encouraged the use of traditional industry-standard tools like Movie Magic Scheduling & Budgeting. While Jerry respected that perspective, she found those programs overly complicated and inefficient for her own workflow.

When she tested Filmustage, she was struck by its simplicity. For the first time, she felt she had a pre-production solution that was intuitive and fast enough to keep projects moving—without endless hours spent struggling through manual work.

Workflow Impact

Before Filmustage: Jerry managed tagging and scheduling manually, which often left projects unfinished. Traditional software slowed her down rather than helping her.

After Filmustage: Everything changed. By uploading a script, Jerry could instantly tag, schedule, and budget. The platform gave her a clear view of costs, streamlined collaboration with her team, and offered analytics that made decision-making easier.

Her favorite features? Tagging and scheduling—fast, accurate, and efficient. The cloud-based accessibility meant she and her collaborators could review schedules and budgets anytime, from anywhere. Compared to manual methods, Filmustage saved her hours of work, helping her stay organized and prepared to pitch projects to financiers.

"It’s almost instantaneous once the script is uploaded," Jerry explains.

Collaboration & Adoption

Filmustage also transformed Jerry’s collaboration process. Directors, producers, and crew members could easily access the project breakdowns, making communication more transparent and efficient.

While some colleagues still prefer familiar legacy tools, Jerry sees Filmustage as a step toward the future of pre-production. For her, the value lies not in tradition, but in efficiency, clarity, and empowerment.

"I’m convinced Filmustage will help get the project moving."

Reflections & Advice

For Jerry, Filmustage has been nothing short of a game-changer. She sees it as an essential tool for modern filmmakers who want to cut through the clutter of traditional methods and focus on what really matters—storytelling.

Her advice to other cinematographers and producers?
“Don’t be afraid to embrace innovation. Filmustage makes tagging, scheduling, and budgeting easy, efficient, and collaborative. While some people may resist change, the future belongs to those who adapt. If you want to move your project forward, Filmustage is the way to go.”
